Ja s’acosta a final de la tercera pèntada, i el nombre de captures ha seguit bastant les quantitats esperades excepte els últims dies, marcats per una forta ventada amb tempesta de sorra incorporada, i també una pluja que va fer una bona regada ahir al matí! (tot i que tota l’aigua s’ha filtrat de seguida).
L’espècie més capturada, com és habitual, ha sigut el tallarol de garriga Curruca iberiae (amb un total de 68 exemplars anellats), mentre que el mosquiter pàl·lid Phylloscopus bonelli, una altre espècie abundant a l’estació, de moment ha registrat només 6 exemplars anellats. Tot just han aparegut els primers 3 capsigranys Lanius senator, mentre que han anat arribant forces cotxes cua-roges Phoenicurus phoenicurus (un total de 26, molt bon nombre per ser encara 19 de març) i 4 tallaretes vulgars Curruca communis. També han caigut 4 còlits grisos Oenanthe oenanthe i 2 còlits rossos Oenanthe hispanica. El mosquiter de passa Phylloscopus trochilus, amb 2 exemplars anellats, i el rossinyol Luscinia megarhynchos i la boscarla de canyar Acrocephalus scirpaceus amb una captura cada un complementen els migrants més habituals capturats aquesta setmana.
Com a més destacat, ja s’han capturat les primeres bosquetes pàl·lides: 3 saharianes Iduna pallida reiseri i 1 occidental Iduna opaca, indicant que pot ser un bon any per aquestes espècies (normalment arriben més tard). Els 11 tallarols capnegres Curruca melanocephala són una quantitat considerable i interessant, sent ja el segon millor any per aquesta espècie des del 2013 (només superat pels 23 exemplars de l’any 2019).
A nivell d’espècies locals, s’afegeix a la llista de captures la primera tórtora del Senegal Streptopelia senagalensis de la temporada.
I també l’observació d’aquest jerbu petit (Gerbillinae) pendent d’identificar, que ha estat treballant intensament en tenir un bon cau abans que arribés la tempesta.
Demà dia 20 el vent pararà després d’un diumenge amb molta sorra i ben poques possibilitats de treballar (només unes poques xarxes i una poca estona al matí, l’estona justa per capturar el primer rossinyol!). Això sí, la quantitat d’orenetes (vulgars Hirundo rustica, cua-rogenques Cecropis daurica i cuablanques Delichon urbicum) vistes al desert avui, així com alguns rapinyaires migrant com un esparver cendrós Circus pygargus, arpelles vulgars Circus aeruginosus, milans negres Milvus migrans i àguiles calçades Aquila pennata, suggereixen que l’arribada de migrants els propers dies pot ser considerable. Estarem atents, i seguirem informant!
The end of the third pentad of the season is coming close, and the number of captures has followed the expected trends, only lowered the last couple of days due to strong winds that ended up with a sand storm, but also with a sudden and heavy rain that happened yesterday morning and (sadly too briefly) flooded part of the lake.
The most common species so far, as usual, has been the Western Subalpine Warbler Curruca iberiae (with a total of 68 ringed individuals), while the Western Bonelli’s Warbler Phylloscopus bonelli, another abundant species, has only 6 individuals ringed so far. The first 3 Woodchat Shrikes Lanius senator just appeared, while quite many Common Redstarts Phoenicurus phoenicurus (a total of 26, a very good total for the 19th of March) and 4 Common Whitethroats Curruca communis. Also 4 Northern Wheatears Oenanthe oenanthe and 2 Black-eared Wheatears Oenanthe hispanica have been ringed. The Willow Warbler Phylloscopus trochilus, with 2 ringed individuals, and the Common Nightingale Luscinia megarhynchos and the Eurasian Reed Warbler Acrocephalus scirpaceus, with one ringed individual for each species, complete the list of common migrants caught these days.
As highlights, we have already captured the two Olivaceous Warbler species that turn up regularly here: 3 Saharan Iduna pallida reiseri and 1 Western Iduna opaca, indicating that this year could be good for them (they usually appear a bit later). The 11 Sardinian Warblers Curruca melanocephala caught so far are also interesting, as this is the second best year since 2013 (behind the 23 individuals ringed in 2019).
On the local species, we have added to this year’s list the first Laughing Dove Streptopelia senagalensis for the season.
And also the observation of this nice Gerbil (Gerbillinae), still pending to ID at species level, that has been working hard on a nice den before the wind started.
Tomorrow 20th of March the wind will start to drop after a Sunday with a lot of wind and sand in the air, that only allowed for a small window of activity with a limited amount of mist-nets in early morning (which was enough to get the first Nightingale of the season!). Nonetheless, the amount of Swallows (Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica, Red-rumped Swallow Cecropis daurica and House Martin Delichon urbicum) seen around the desert today, as several migrating raptors as a Montagu’s Harrier Circus pygargus, Marsh Harriers Circus aeruginosus, Black Kites Milvus migrans and Booted Eagles Aquila pennata, suggest that the arrival of migrants the next few days could be remarkable. We’ll be hoping for it, and we will keep informing!
